The Science Behind CoolSculpting
The Science behind CoolSculpting– We live in a marketing world. There are hundreds of well known treatments that have little to no effect on the human body, but have been so well marketed that many people believe that they do. Echinacea and Vitamin C probably won’t cure the common cold. HCG diets don’t actually provide any more weight loss benefits than starvation. If you’d like to learn more about our procedures, give us a call today at 949-309-5085. Dr Siamak Agha is a world-renown plastic surgeon. Take a look at our CoolSculpting Gallery.
This is often the case with non-surgical body contouring. There are several procedures that do “something,” but the effects are usually small or close to non-existent, or require so many treatment sessions that results would be better found with simply increasing exercise. What is the cost of CoolSculpting ?
The Science behind CoolSculpting
What is The Science behind CoolSculpting ? Many of our patients here at Orange County CoolSculpting ® are shocked to find out how well CoolSculpting ® works, and one of the main reasons it works so well is because CoolSculpting ® is based on real science that has validated the effects not only of the CoolSculpting ® machine, but also cryolipolysis and cool panniculitis, the prevailing scientific theories that go into the fat freezing system.
Studies Supporting CoolSculpting ®
CoolSculpting ® uses an evolutionary process with origins that are not entirely clear, but provable in scientific labs nonetheless. Doctors have long known about a phenomenon called cool panniculitis, where fat that has cooled becomes inflamed, and many of the fat cells crystallize – yet all of that occurs without any additional damage to more important cells, like skin cells or tissue.
In fact, it’s been found that children that enjoy a lot of popsicles have a tendency to develop dimples, because the fat in their cheeks crystalized and was removed by the body. It was found that at the right temperature, fat cells will freeze and die while all other cells remain healthy. This process was then turned into a procedure, known as cryolipolysis.
Multiple studies ever since have supported the usage of cryolipolysis – the procedure used in CoolSculpting ® – as an effective way to eliminate fat. These studies have also found that any effects of the cold on other cells, like skin, tissue, and nerves, were short lived and resulted in no permanent damage. Examples of these studies include:
- Clinical Efficacy of Noninvasive Cryolipolysis and Its Effects on Peripheral Nerve – This study found a 20% reduction in fat and zero long term effects on the peripheral nerves. Since then, technology has improved to provide as much as 35%.
- Safety, Tolerance, and Patient Satisfaction With Noninvasive Cryolipolysis – This study found a 23% fat reduction, and a 73% patient satisfaction score. Much like the previous study, specific new techniques and procedures have managed to secure higher fat reduction and even higher satisfaction. Yet even at 23% and 73%, respectively, the results are significant for non-surgical liposuction procedure.
- Cryolipolysis for Fat Reduction and Body Contouring: Safety and Efficacy of Current Treatment Paradigms – One of the most recent studies, which involved a meta analysis of nearly 20 different studies in the past 5 years, confirmed what many of those other studies found – that patients that uses cryolipoylsis for fat loss reported as much as 30% of fat loss with no long term side effects.
Put into even greater context, liposuction – the most effective way to eliminate fat – has a satisfaction rating of 80%. At 73%, CoolSculpting ® is right on its heels, but with none of the risks or complications.
Considering CoolSculpting ® in Orange County and Los Angeles
Now, there is never going to be a treatment that is quite as effective as surgery, because with surgery every piece of fat can be sculpted and removed by hand in a controlled setting. But it’s hard to imagine any procedure coming as close as CoolSculpting ® – especially one with so little long term risk, and so much research to support it.
